Cheetah Mobile Partners With Cheetah Conservation Fund to Save the Wild Cheetah
Joint PSA campaign launches with video billboard in New York City’s Times Square
San Francsico, CA (July 15, 2015) – Cheetah Mobile (NYSE:CMCM), the leading developer of mission-critical mobile utility applications, today announced a partnership with Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), the longest running cheetah conservation program in existence, to drive awareness for Africa’s most endangered big cat.
As the first step, Cheetah Mobile and CCF are debuting a 10-second video PSA in New York City’s historic Times Square Plaza running from the middle of July through the end of September. The video billboard is located at 1500 Broadway, exposing it to a potential audience of the 1,500,000 people who pass by daily. The goal is to drive awareness for the plight of the wild cheetah, whose worldwide population has dropped from 100,000 one hundred years ago to only approximately 10,000 today.
“In our experience, most people are not aware the cheetah is in danger of becoming extinct – but the reality is we are in a race against the clock. Unless people come together quickly to take action, there will soon not be enough cheetahs left to save,” said Dr. Laurie Marker, Founder and Executive Director of Cheetah Conservation Fund. “This urgency inspired us to take out a video billboard in Times Square, the crossroads of the world, to encourage more people to join the fight. We are very excited to partner with Cheetah Mobile to reach a wider audience with this critical call to action."
Going beyond the technology sector, Cheetah Mobile wants to leave a lasting impact on the world and help protect this iconic species from which it draws its inspiration and name. Cheetah Mobile is joining the fight to save Chip, its mascot, and the rest of his wild cheetah friends.
“We chose the name Cheetah Mobile because we want to be the fastest-running mobile Internet company in the world while helping our users have the fastest possible mobile experiences,” said Cheetah Mobile CEO Sheng Fu. “I deeply admire the work that Cheetah Conservation Fund and Dr. Laurie Marker are doing to save the cheetah. It’s an honor for Cheetah Mobile to join with them in protecting our namesake species.”
Cheetah Mobile and CCF are encouraging their fans, users and supporters to interact with the campaign by sharing information about the endangered big cat through social media.
